Jim's Report of the event: (Photos are shown below this report)
The 2012 Black Lion
reunion took place on Saturday 25 September and was, I think, enjoyed by all.
Those in attendance were George, Cy and Louise, John, Micky and Margaret Anne,
Danny, Mike, Penny, Danielle, Chris, Tony, Biff, Ray, Tom, Jim and Anne.
Apologies were received from Drew and Lynne, Tommy, Joe and Davy.
As you might expect, like most of you I got pissed pretty quickly so can't
remember much about the event. What I do remember, however, was having a
conversation with George who was in the pub before I arrived. George is now
tea-total and much to his credit remained so throughout the event. I don't
think he found it easy, however, as he went for a walk at one stage.
I also remember talking to Ray about the time Hotel Forty won the 7 a-side
football tournament at Regents Park. We entered 3 teams in that tournament and
Ray recalled scoring the winning goal in the final. Cy claimed to have been in
that team and even had the trophy on his person to prove the point! Cy also
revealed that whilst living in Hotel Forty he used to sneak into my room on
Sunday afternoons to play his cassettes on my hi-fi! Bloody cheek!
I recall talking to Danielle and Penny. Danielle, like me, is a Patti Smith fan
and recalled many of her albums including Horses, Radio Ethiopia,
Easter, Wave and Dream of Life. You have impeccable taste in music,
Danielle! Penny told me her parents are still going strong.
The next thing I recall was being outside in the company of Biff, Micky and
Margaret Anne. I reminded Micky of the time he failed to get a British passport
in time to go on holiday but received an Irish one just like that. I remembered
Micky declaring at the time that he wasn't going to support Northern Ireland
any more but was going to support the Republic. Micky declared that he now has
a British passport!
I recall talking to John about how awful the Scottish football team are now
compared with the old days. John had just returned from taking in two Scotland
matches in Glasgow.
Biff assures me that at 11pm we were turfed inside the pub presumably because
of the noise level and that I started singing "We shall not be
moved".
I remember talking to Tony about the good old days when we were young and care
free and living in Bayswater in the mid 70s. We recalled pulling the
"burds" on a pretty regular basis and basically having the time of
our lives. Oh to go back to 1975-76 Tony!
Obviously I spoke to everyone there but I don't have any specific memories of
these conversations.
Finally, Scouse (a man I hero worshiped and admired greatly) asked me to write this report,
so how could I refused. I have tried to make it as interesting as possible but
feel certain that I have failed. Oh well, c'est la vie!
